CAPTAIN ALEX KEISCH
Holocaust Refugee / Motivational Lecturer

Holocaust REFUGEE, Captain Alex Keisch, is an engaging and motivational speaker who uses humor, warmth, and hard facts that he filters through his personal perspective of the HOLOCAUST to teach a SIMPLE, NOT SIMPLISTIC approach to SYSTEMICALLY stop our epidemic of bullying.

Captain Keisch, the son of Jewish Partisans, was born in the waning days of WWII on the site of the Nazi work camp Plaszov, near the city of Krakow, Poland. You may recall that Plaszov was the camp from which Oscar Schindler rescued over 1000 Jews.

Growing up in Connecticut nurtured his love for the sea and led him to The United States Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, New York. After graduation he travelled the world over on nearly a score of different deep-sea vessels as a licensed deck officer rising through the ranks to eventually command ten different ships for three different companies.

Captain Keisch, the proverbially wandering Jew, settled in Richmond, VA, in the Fall of 1984, with his beautiful wife Dianne Huxford and their ten month old daughter Heather. He gave up his seagoing career and then for a number of years co-owned and ran a high volume portrait studio and church directory photography business with his wife.  Eventually he transitioned to a career as a Final Expense Life Insurance salesman.

Today Captain Keisch sits on the EXECUTIVE COUNCIL of the Board of Trustees at The Virginia Holocaust Museum as well as volunteering as a docent for the Museum. He also serves as Vice President of the Board of Trustees for The Emek Sholom Holocaust Memorial Cemetery and is this year’s chairman for the annual Kristallnacht Services.  Other responsibilities include serving on the Board of the Advisory Counsel of the SS UNITED STATES Conservancy, working to save that great icon of American know-how and ingenuity for future generations of Americans. Captain Keisch, a long time member of the Council of American Master Mariners, also serves as the Vice President of the Richmond Kings Point Alumni Chapter of the United States Merchant Marine Academy.

Another facet of his busy life is offering time as a Boy Scout Merit Badge Instructor.  He is often called on to perform his duties as Motivational Speaker and Lecturer speaking at Grade Schools, Middle Schools, High Schools, Universities, Military Bases, Synagogues, Churches, and Civic groups; and, is currently writing his memoirs.
